Cracked Heel Remedy – For Super Soft Feet!

Cracked Heel Remedy solution

Cracked Heel Remedy

I just tried an amazing cracked heel remedy you can do at home for a fraction of the cost of a pedicure!  I am always trying to find to save money on beauty tips and tricks.

Just like our Mary Kay’s Satin Hands Copycat recipe here.  Now, I’m not saying not to ever get a mani or pedi but those are a treat for me.  My budget just doesn’t allow for me to go all the time.

I am so excited to tell you that I have actually tried something that really works!  It really, really WORKS!  This works better than any sprays or creams I’ve ever tried.

You will need about 35 minutes to sit and soak your feet.  The kids cannot disrupt this process!  If you have kids, this could be a treat to have some uninterrupted time to yourself.

  • And…  You might consider doing this at night so my feet can stay in socks overnight to seal in the moisture.  I’ve been using these Visco-GEL Heel-So-Smooth Heel Sleeves and they work very nicely.

This is the only cracked heel remedy I’ve ever tried at home that really works with very little effort.  I’m amazed at how the hydrogen peroxide just melts away the dead tissue.  It’s amazing!

It seems there’s a really good reason as to why this works so well.  Hydrogen peroxide is known to help with a fungal infections on the surface and athlete’s foot too.  It’s a wonderful home remedy for foot fungus, whitening of the toenails, and even toenail fungus too.

Cracked heels can be a sign of a deeper issue also though.  You may need to consider your overall diet and food consumption along with making sure you are completely hydrated too.

According to the CDC , hydrogen peroxide has antifungal properties is effective at removing microorganisms, including bacteria, yeasts, fungi, viruses, and spores, making it a great choice for a foot bath.

I will also mention that it’s NOT easy taking photos of your own heels.  Here’s a great before and after photo:

Here’s what you need:

Here’s what you do:

Combine 2 cups of hydrogen peroxide and 2 cups of hot water (not just warm water but hot) in a foot soak.  Sit for a full 30 minutes with your heels completely immersed in the solution.

Completely dry your feet and immediately use the foot file or pumas stone to removed the dead skin and affected areas.  This is an easy process and only takes about a minute or two for each foot (depending on your condition).

Note:  The photos I took of my heels above were right after this process!  Immediately they are nice and smooth!

Finish by applying lotion to your foot. We use O’Keefe’s Healthy Feet Creme because it’s the best anywhere! It looks just like this found here on Amazon. If your hands are dry, you should try the O’Keefe’s Working Hands Cream too.  Or some simple coconut oil rubbed on with a clean cloth or cotton swab also helps moisturize most skin irritations too.

You might want to talk to your healthcare professional to see if there could be other reasons causing your dry skin.  Even some medications you are on could be causing you to lose certain minerals and vitamins too.  I have not found any other otc (over the counter) product or cream that works nearly as good as this soak feet solution.

UPDATE:  I found a much better foot file that works amazingly well.  The problem with the plastic foot files is that they bend when you push pressure when scrubbing.  I found this Foot File that doesn’t bend at all!  I can apply any pressure I want and it will file when I want.  It’s worth every penny!

Cover with socks overnight to seal in the moisture.

Voila!  You are ready for the summer and all the cute shoes too!  Wait!  Don’t forget some cute Nail Designs for those polished tootsies!

Important Note: Be sure not to use Peroxide on open wounds. Hydrogen peroxide is caustic to new skin cells that are repairing any cracks that are hurting.

Might not be a good idea if on fresh splits that are like cuts. Once those are healed then try this solution.

Frequently Asked Questions:

This remedy is more for dry cracked heels, not necessarily a treatment for foot fungus.  You would have to consult your medical professional for oral medication for this problem.

Soaking your feet in hydrogen peroxide helps to kill surface fungus and bacteria.  The hot foot soak helps to soften and remove dead skin making it easier to scrub and smooth the heels.

Yes, this foot soak works amazingly well for that too but only on the surface.  If you have a deeper issue you will need to contact your medical professional for treatment.

What is the best homemade foot soak?

This recipe above is the best homemade foot soak for dry cracked heels that I’ve ever tried.  It works very well every time I use it.  You can wear sandals without any embarrassment.

  1. Let me tell you. I didn’t do the foot soak, but I woke this morning to soft feet after scrubbing my floors with peroxide. I’m mind blown because I’ve lotioned and scrubbed off calluses for ten years.

  2. Ok I must say I was very skeptical but hey, I’ll give it a try and…… OMG I can’t believe this actually worked! I have extremely dry skin so I’m particular about the products I use. I didn’t have O’Keefe’s Foot Creme so I used what I had Nivea’s Extended Moisture Body Lotion. The results are way better than the $35 pedicure I was getting every 2 weeks. It will be interesting to see how long this will last. As with other comments my heels are horrible after a few days so I may not be able to wait a month Lol

    1. It’s amazing that a very inexpensive product can do the trick huh?! I was skeptical before I tried it too. Now I know Nivea’s lotion works great but O’Keefe’s is absolutely amazing! Next time you run out of lotion and have to buy more, give it a try! It works miracles on my feet. I’ve also found that if I up my water intake my feet don’t get as dry. So glad it worked for you. Thanks for commenting Katrina.

  3. By the end of the summer, my heels are hideous! Love going barefoot but my feet pay the price; and not for pedicures. Love…love this remedy! It really works!

  4. This is awesome! I must admit I was a bit skeptical at first but it really does work! I have tried EVERYTHING to get rid of my dry cracked heels. I did this twice because my heals were in really bad shape and I am quite pleased with the results…I will probably do it again next week before I go away!

I used a regular nail block to smooth away the dead skin (I didn’t have a pumice stone) and applied good old Gold Bond Foot Cream to my feet (which feel so soft) and put on a pair of socks…I’ll check them in a few hours to see how they feel.
Why didn’t I find this sooner!!!!

  5. This is really great. I use Alessandro’s Pedix Feet Heel Rescue Balm afterwards. It’s awesome and your hands get a bonus by rubbing it on your feet (elbows, too). Its from Germany and Drugstore.com just started selling it I the US. Awesome stuff!

  6. I get pedicures very often so i will def try this I wear sandals year round so my heels are always treacherous lol & I’ve used numerous different products but nothing seems to work for any length of time..

  7. Do you mind if I quote a couple of your articles as long as
I provide credit and sources back to your webpage? My website is in the exact same
niche as yours and my visitors would definitely benefit from some of the information you provide here.
Please let me know if this ok with you. Thank you!

  8. My Heals are always nasty. Thanks for the great tip, I am definitely going to give this a try.

  9. Is it safe to soak in peroxide for 35 minutes?? Also, does the treatment last a while? Were your feet still soft & smooth a few days later? Thanks!

    1. Yes. This usually lasts about 3 months for me. I’ve also increased my water intake which also helps with dry skin.

      1. Could you do this for your dry and cracked hands as well?

  10. I am going to try this tonight. I usually do the listerine foot bath, which is a miracle in and of itself. You use peroxide and listerine (I suggest the yellow because the dye and fragrance is important) in equal amounts and hot water. Soak your feet in that and you will have even better results.

  11. This a wonderful tip. I can’t wait to try it this weekend. Thank you.

  12. I agree this is great!cheap and works really well!

  13. Do you know if this could also be used for you whole foot? I have spots on the sides and balls of my feet that would greatly benefit from this type of treatment.

  14. Why didn’t you use a pic of the same foot?

    Just wondering…

    1. Because it was very difficult to take a photo of the back of my foot without dropping my camera and getting the right angle to see the difference. Both my heels were in the same condition and that was the best photo with the best light. I had no one home to help me with a photo 🙁
