5 Tips to Organize Your Cleaning Supplies

Cleaning supplies can be quite tricky. They come in many different shapes and sizes and not all cleaning supplies can be stored together. Given all the things  you have to think about, how does one go about organizing all these supplies? Can they be conveniently and safely stored in your home?

Of course they can! Here are some tips to make sure you organize your cleaning supplies safely while still being able to get to them when you need them:

Determine Where Your Cleaning Central Will Be

When it comes to cleaning supplies, you simply have to designate an area to work within. Cleaning supplies are gangly and can be messy and difficult to store, so having a room or area of the house where you can put them away safely is key. Find a spot that is easy to access for you but tough for the kids or pets. You also want to find a spot that is away from company and ventilated.

Dangerous Items Should be Under Lock and Key

Knowing the cleaning supplies you have and what they can do is very important. Dangerous chemicals can not only mix badly, they can also be extremely dangerous to pets and kids. Make sure you take a solid inventory and compare these dangers before storing anything together. Also make sure you lock up and put away anything that could harm the little ones.

Install Sliding Drawers Under Cabinets

No matter where you store your cleaning supplies, you will probably want to keep a certain amount of cleaners and items under the sink in the kitchen or bathroom. Sliding drawers are awesome for this purpose. They allow you to see what is “in the back” as well as the things in the front without making a mess.

Wall Mounted Racks are a Must

Installing some wall mounted racks in your cleaning area is a great way to keep things at eye level and easy to access. This also makes things tougher for the kids and pets to reach. Mops, brooms and various other items hang up nicely and will dry much more efficiently as well. Make sure you put a basin at the floor level if you are going to allow them to air dry while hanging up.

Condense When Possible

Why keep four kinds of furniture polish? Do you really need nine multi-cleaners? Find the ones that work and you will have a much cleaner supply area.

Work Off of a Supply List

If you keep a regular inventory list and update it regularly, you will always have what you need. Each time you go to the grocery store, you simply take a look at the supply list and purchase accordingly. Supply lists also are helpful when you are trying to determine what product to use for a given problem.

Invest in Some Quality Cleaning Caddies

Cleaning caddies will allow you to carry a group of cleaning supplies from room to room while still keeping them organized. The best thing is they are cheap and can be stored with your other supplies easily. Some folks make a caddy for each room but that is totally up to each individual person. That is a ton of extra cleaning supplies to purchase.
