Meal Ideas That Help Fight Childhood Hunger
Meal Ideas That Help Fight Childhood Hunger
You have probably seen commercials and/or products talking about the CHILD HUNGER ENDS HERE Project. I’m happy to say that the Albertsons Safeway family of stores have joined this amazing cause with their Hunger Is Campaign for the entire month of September! Buying groceries is something we do on a regular basis for our families anyway, and this is an easy way to help someone that may be struggling with hunger. In America, one in five children live in a household where there is not consistent access to adequate food. This is a heartbreaking thought, but I’m going to show you an easy way that you can help! The local store in my area that is part of the Albertsons Safeway family of stores is Randalls. My family and I made this trip together so we could use it as a learning experience as well. For the Hunger Is Campaign, there are two ways that you can help. In some areas, you will have the option for a donation made at the register. As you pay for your groceries, there may be donation tabs or an option on the key pad for you to select. You may also see meal donations that you can buy (pictured below). These may be in a designated area or at the registers. The bags of food items will look like this.
All of the meals were around eight dollars. You can purchase one and then drop it in the designated bin! These meals are then donated to your local food banks to help families in your area. You will find a bin that looks like the one below. Ours already had several donations in it, which is an amazing thing!
Another way that you can help, is to purchase participating products with the CHILD HUNGER ENDS HERE picture on them. They all have a red pushpin, with the logo and can be easily spotted. Here is an example of what to look for.
Some participating brands are Con Agra Foods, Coke, Unilever, Kellogg’s and Campbell’s! For each product that you buy, there will be a code located on the package. You will go to the website on the package and enter your code. For every code that you enter, 1 meal will be given to a local food bank! Walking through the store we found so many options. We got my husband some easy lunches that he could take to work.
We also picked up some Banquet breakfast sausage, Manwich for dinner one night and a Marie Calender’s pie for dessert! This is an easy way to participate in the Hunger Is Campaign while taking care of your family at the same time! Participating products were easy to locate because several of them had banners hanging right next to the products!
Once you purchase your items, just remember to enter the codes and make it count! All of the instructions you need are located on the box. Join me and the Albertsons Safeway Family of stores in the Hunger Is Campaign and let’s fight childhood hunger in America!
