Chocolate Dipped Potato Chips
Chocolate Dipped Potato Chips
Ok, I know what you are thinking…. It sounds completely crazy to have chocolate dipped potato chips but I’m here to tell you something.
Have you ever had one of those recipes that sounded weird but ended up being really good? The first thing that comes to mind for me is crispy bacon dipped in chocolate. It sounds strange but it’s really, really good!
There are a couple reasons why I like this concoction. First, anytime you mix a bit of salt with chocolate it will intensify the taste of the chocolate by 10! Seriously! Don’t knock it until you’ve tried it! There’s a good reason why those fancy cupcake shops are selling lots of chocolate bacon cupcakes.
The other reason I like it is a bit selfish for this Mom. I like it because the kids love making it. I mean, they love eating it too but they love making it just as much! It keeps them busy (and not fighting) for at least 30 minutes or so until they are fighting over the last chip. Yeah, selfish…
We have fun with this recipe too. You can change the colors or decorations you want to fit your party theme. We did some for St. Patricks day and we had some super cute lucky charms sprinkles.
Just look at all the different sprinkles there are out there. The possibilities for decorations are endless!
Chocolate Dipped Potato Chips Ingredients
Kettle cooked potato chips
2 cups milk chocolate chips
1 Cup Wilton bright pink candy melts
Valentine Sprinkles (or party theme of your choice)
Chocolate Dipped Potato Chips Directions
1. Lay out a piece of parchment paper and place your chocolate chips in a microwave safe bowl and microwave for 2 to 3 minutes on 50% power, stirring every 30 seconds until melted. Be sure to stir the chocolate in between times.
2. Begin dipping your potato chips into your melted milk chocolate so that half of the chip is covered and place them onto the parchment paper for the chocolate to harden. I really need to tell you that kettle chips work best on this recipe because of how firm the chip is. You don’t want to use those thin crisp potato chips because they cannot hold the weight of the chocolate. You can experiment with flavors too. For example, we have a Jalapeno chip flavor that tastes pretty good with chocolate! I’m not sure if they carry Jalapeno flavored chips outside of Texas though.
3. In a separate microwave safe bowl, melt your Wilton candy melts for 2-3 minutes on 50% power, stirring every 30 seconds until melted and pour into your decorating bag also stirring the chocolate between cook times. Can I just tell you… get the disposable piping bags! They are the best thing since sliced bread. There is no way I want to clean up hard chocolate after I’ve completed this project. The bags are really sturdy too! Don’t try the trick with a ziplock baggy where you cut the tip off. The bags just don’t hold up.
4. Cut a small tip off the end of your decorating bag and drizzle your mouth and pink chocolate on top of your chocolate coated chips. This is the fun part! Get as creative as you want!
5. Top of each chip off with sprinkles and let them set for about 30 minutes or until the chocolate has hardened that’s if the kids can wait that long.
We hope you enjoy this recipe as much as we do. I think the memories made with the kids are the most enjoyable for me. They can be so darn sweet when they are having fun!
