Best Baby Formula for Babies Who Spit Up
Man, oh man do I remember the days of my little bundle of joy constantly spitting up or having discomfort. There wasn’t really a name for it yet. But now they realize it is uncomplicated Gastroesophageal Reflux called GER. In cases of uncomplicated reflux, the AAP recommends the use of lifestyle changes, like burping more frequently and holding the baby upright after feeding, as well as using thickened feedings such as Enfamil A.R.™ as a first line option. Back in the day our doctors would tell us to add a little bit of rice to our formula to help with our issues.
I remember not having a formula option to help with our problem. Did you know parents often associate frequent spit ups with acid reflux when about two thirds are otherwise healthy infants have uncomplicated reflux? I do know that it is common for babies to spit up while their digestive systems develop and every baby does have periods of fussiness but you as a parent often can tell when a situation needs a different formula or more attention too.
I specifically remember me crying to my doctor to please give me a solution that will allow the discomfort to go away. I didn’t know if it was GER or GERD. I also remember thinking that she probably wasn’t getting enough food because she was constantly spitting up. I can vividly remember changing formula after formula only to be very disappointed in the results. My poor child went through a very hard time with formulas. It’s a process I never, ever want to go through again.
One of the best pieces of advice I can give you is to be informed. Get to know all the differences between acid reflux, GERD, and the much more common uncomplicated reflux also called Gastroessophageal Reflux (GER). Once you are fully aware of which situation you have it will be much easier to know how to manage it.
Times have definitely changed for formulas too. From one of my most trusted brands of formulas, Enfamil A.R., was created for babies who spit up. This will make lots of Moms (and Dads) very happy.
The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends lifestyle changes such as using thickened feedings like Enfamil A.R.™ as a first line management option for infants with uncomplicated reflux. I can’t tell you how happy I am to have a formula that has a thicker consistency that helps with spit up. No more mixing certain baby foods and guessing on the consistency. Enfamil A.R.™ is nutritionally balanced, unlike adding rice cereal to formula like we used to do. It will give your bundle of joy comfort and a thicker consistency of formula with every feeding. What a relief. All the spitting up she was doing meant less sleep for Mom and Dad, which is never a good thing. It’s such a huge relief when you find something that really works. Better sleep for everyone and balanced nutrition for your baby. Life is good when you find that happy balance.
