Make your own homemade bug repellent. Using essential oils to repel ants, mosquitoes and ticks is a healthy and natural way to keep your family safe from pesky bites. Sage, Lavender, Citronella and Oregano Essential Oils are all excellent choices. You can add drops around your tent, camp area or mix with some witch hazel or alcohol to spray on legs and arms to keep the bugs away.  Head over here to learn how to make a safe homemade mosquito repellent.

Pack your kitchen tools in one large tote. One of the easiest ways to keep things together between camping trips is to put them together in one place. Buy a large plastic tote (55 gallon is great) to put all of your kitchen supplies in. You can easily stack two smaller tubs for washing dishes between meals, into the bottom of this tote. Then you can stack in your cup, utensils, plates, cooking equipment like a skillet, stockpot or small pot for various meals and of course spatulas and mixing spoons. This will be easy for you to unload and keep everything together without worrying about tons of boxes of supplies.

Use solar lights instead of lanterns. Many people worry about lanterns being knocked over, catching fire or just the fuss of dealing with fuel for them. Instead of using so many lanterns, invest in some simple solar lights you can easily have around camp during the day charging up to use at night. There are small ones that can go on the pathway near your camp, as well as larger tiki torch styles that work wonderfully. This is one of the best camping hacks for your safety at the campsite.

Marinate meats and freeze in advance of your trip. Instead of worrying about marinating and seasoning things like hamburgers, chicken or even steaks while at your campsite, prepare them before your trip and place in large freezer bags. Freeze them before you leave, and then keep in ice until ready to use. You can pack them at the bottom of your cooler or RV freezer to keep them frozen longer, then move to the top where they will stay cold but thaw more when you are ready to use them. This is one less thing to worry about packing in you food box. Seasonings, etc. won’t need to take up extra space.  This is where my Foodsaver machine comes in handy!

Prepare all of your food in advance. From doing all of your marinating as suggested, to dicing your fruits, vegetables you can save tons of time and energy at your campsite. By doing this ahead of time, you also eliminate the need to bring along some prep items, or even can cook foods in advance so all you need to do is throw the aluminum foil package onto the coals to heat through.

Put your eggs in water bottles. This sounds weird, but cracking your eggs and pouring into a water bottle will make it easier to transport in your cooler with no fear of an egg breaking and making a huge mess. Your average 16-20oz water bottle can hold around 8 eggs.

Pack microfiber towels. These come in handy for dozens of things on a campsite. From wiping up spills to even toweling off after a shower, these are mush more absorbent and dry faster than traditional towels.  Look at this deal for microfiber towels here on Amazon!

Freeze gallons of water to go in your cooler. You’ll need drinking water, and the frozen gallons of water will help you keep food cold in your cooler. A win-win situation.
