I Found a Good Student Mobile Plan!

I’m so excited to share with you a good student mobile plan I found!  I was at the mall shopping this past weekend with the whole family.  We ended up learning about mobile phone plans but my youngest decided to “drop a bomb” and tell her Daddy that she wanted a phone.  This is my husband’s reaction!  She’s only nine!

It’s hard taking the girls to the mall and still keeping our budget on track.  I’m always trying to find ways to save money on the things we want and better yet, things we need.  I have an 18 year old that is in her first year of college and a 9 year old that thinks she should be in college.  You know the type, 9 but going on 19!  Please someone tell her that she doesn’t need Minecraft anything!  It’s a want.  Not a need.

We ended up almost passing up the Best Buy Mobile Specialty Store until a sign in the window caught my attention.  My youngest immediately said she needed a new cell phone.  No way!  Really?  Are there really 9 year old children that have their own cell phones?  I have to remind her to brush her teach in the morning and she wants a cell phone?  I burst out laughing when she asked.  She said there were multiple kids in her class that have their own phones.  She’s not been one to ever really lie about anything but this conversation got me thinking.  What age is appropriate for a child to have a cell phone?

I originally started into the store because I have a college student that lives by her phone.  Texting, talking, streaming…  yeah, you know the type.  We are talking full blown unlimited plan is needed for her.

Here’s the sign that nearly stopped me in my tracks:

It’s the new Sprint My Way Student Promotion!  I immediately head into the Best Buy Specialty store so I can see what type of savings we are talking about.  First, I learn that it’s for all students.  This could even be for my nine year old.  (Shhh!  Don’t tell her I just said that!)  This is even for home school students!  Anyone with a report card or student paperwork.

My daughter has a fairly old phone.  The Best Buy Mobile Specialty Store associate told us we could even trade her phone in and get a credit towards a new phone with this deal too.

Compare that costs against what you are already paying and I bet you will find a huge savings!  I must have asked the Best Buy Mobile Specialty Store Customer Service individual about a thousand questions.  He was so helpful.  I didn’t feel stupid asking all those questions either.  I love that.

There’s also a referral program!  Refer a friend and you can earn another 12 months for each referral for up to 9 referred friends!

The 12 month Sprint My Way Student promotion comes with 1 GB of data.  I know my daughter and I know she will need unlimited data or else we could be in big trouble here.  The Sprint My Way Student promotion also comes with an unlimited plan for just $10 more per month.  Totally worth every penny!  I don’t think I would have seen this plan if it weren’t for the Best Buy Mobile Specialty store being located in the mall.

 

All in all it’s a great plan for students!  Now, my youngest is still trying to convince me that she needs a phone.  She says it will help save the battery on my phone if I get her one because she won’t be borrowing mine anymore.  She also tried to say that it will help her with her homework.  Hmmmm…. not.  It’s hard to say no to this face but she’s only nine and the answer is still no.  Am I the only parent to say no phone to a nine year old?
