My daughter’s Finch Birds HAD BABIES! Oh boy!
Our Finch Birds HAD BABIES!
My daughter’s Finch Birds had babies! Four of them! The photo above is just one of them near a penny so you can get an idea of just how small these babies are.
This is the third set of babies these finches have had. The first two sets all died because the parents wouldn’t feed them. My daughter was devastated. I’m talking hurdled up in the fetal position in the corner crying hysterically because she thought it was her fault. Talk about heartbreaking and crushing to see.
Well, it happened AGAIN! More babies! Is there birth control for birds? lol!
This time my daughter (and I) are determined to take the place of the parents and feed these precious babies around the clock! Boy, I forgot how hard it was to wake up in the middle of the night to feed babies. (I am feeling your pain new mommies)
This has been a wonderful learning experience for my daughter and we wanted to share a bit of our experience with all of you! My daughter, Melanie, who is six years old (going on 16) was tickled pink when I took a video of one of her babies (yes, she’s the mom) drinking water from a medicine syringe. She was so excited to watch this over and over again that I thought if you have children they would enjoy this as well.
You can only image the trouble we have gone through to care for these babies. We went to the library to read ANYTHING and EVERYTHING about Baby Finch Birds. We visited the pet store and interviewed an expert on birds. Bought some special food that much be prepared at a certain temperature and mixed to a certain consistency! And… lastly, we visited a dentist office to get a special sized syringe that is curved and small to be able to feed these birds properly! Whew…. The things we do for the love of all animals and for the love of our very own children too! I’m sure you have stories of your own! I can only image! I would love to hear comments of things you’ve done too! It would certainly make my day!
Please wish us luck on our journey in caring for these precious babies! Oh! and if you happen to be an expert in baby finches I would love to talk to you!
Update: 5 Days old Video:
Enjoy!
Good luck! Baby birds are certainly hard to care for! We took on a baby duck once and he didn’t make it =( Also, we raised wild bunnies that were only a couple days old, I was an oppossum Mommy to a little guy who was lucky enough to survive being hit while riding with his siblings on his mom’s back. I raised him until he was too big and stinky to keep. Then we took on newborn kittens, bottle fed them and we still have them 12 years later =)
Oh I am tickled to hear there are other stories like mine! Thanks for sharing! We just adore all animals too!
