How to Organize Your Garden Supplies
How to Organize Your Garden Supplies
When it’s time to work in your garden, it can be frustrating to spend more time searching for your supplies than actually working in the dirt. Check out these ideas for getting your garden supplies organized and in order.
Use a Mailbox
Do you have an old mailbox? Set it up near your gardening area. Paint it or decorate it in some way so it will be a cute yard decoration. Keep in mind, though, this mailbox is more than just decoration. Keep your gardening gloves, hand pruners, and other small gardening tools in the mailbox so they are ready when you need them.
Store Your Seed Packets
Those little seed packets can get away from you easily. Keep them stored and organized by using a ringback binder. Use either a regular sized one or a smaller, half-size binder. Grab some heavy, freezer storage bags and use a hole punch to put holes in the bags on the end opposite the zipper seal. Pop the freezer bags into the binder then keep your seed packets in the bags.
Another great way to keep your seed packets in order is to save those plastic containers that lunch meat comes in. Wash and dry the containers thoroughly then organize your seed packets in them. Use one for veggies, one for flowers seeds, or even separate the veggies by color. Use a permanent marker or a repositionable label to mark the containers.
Use a Hanging Shoe Bag
A hanging shoe bag is great for storing small gardening supplies. Hang one inside your gardening shed, garage, or mudroom. Store gardening gloves, pruners, seeds, hand tools, and other gardening supplies in the pockets so they are ready when you need them.
Organize Your Gardening Magazines and Seed Catalogs
Do you have plenty of seed catalogs lying around? How about those gardening magazines that are packed full of great ideas and photos? You probably hate to throw them away, but if you want to keep them you need to organize them. Here are a couple of ideas:
Use sheet protectors to keep your catalogs and magazines in place in a ringback binder. You may also choose to use sheet protectors for just specific pages out of magazines or catalogs if you don’t want to keep the whole publication.
You can also purchase plastic binder magazine holders that pop into a three ring binder. You then slide a magazine through the magazine holder and to read them, you just open up the binder.
One or more of these ideas can help you keep your gardening supplies organized so you can find them when you need them. Get organized so you can spend your time digging in the dirt instead of digging around in your home, shed, or garage to find your gardening supplies.

Thanks for the tips! I love gardening, but I keep losing my gardening supplies. It can be really frustrating when I need a certain tool but I can’t find it because I didn’t pay attention to were I’m putting my things. I really liked your tip to use a hanging shoe bag. Usually, I use one for my shoes that I keep in my closet, but I can see how it can also be useful to hang one in the garage to store a few of my gardening tools that I lose on a consistent basis.
