How to Organize Your Work Space
How to Organize Your Work Space
A clean and neat work space can help increase your productivity and make your work a little easier. How? When you are able to find the things you need, it means you spend less time searching and more time getting your tasks accomplished. Knowing the things in your work space are in order can also mean your work space is more inviting. This can give you motivation to get more done. Check out these tips for getting your work space organized so you can get to work.
Decide What You Really Need
When it comes to your work space, you need to take a little time to figure out and decide what you really need. It’s easy to plop down things you are working on but won’t need later or set something down that you used once. Your work space can become full of things you may have used once or twice but don’t really need on hand. Decide what the essentials are and work on getting those items in order.
Put Most Used Items At Hand
Things that you use the most should be close by when you are working. If you use lots of pencils or pens, be sure to have them within easy reach of your writing hand. For the items you need to keep close but don’t use as frequently, organize those in a small plastic storage container that can slide under your desk or into a drawer. You can also choose a decorative shoebox to keep such items in.
De-Clutter Your Work Area
Some people work better with clutter around them, but most do not. Spend some time de-cluttering and removing unnecessary items from your work area. The more you can put away, the better your space will be. Keep in mind that anything you haven’t used in awhile should be moved elsewhere. The idea is to whittle your work space down so that it is clean and practically empty of excess stuff.
Makes Files for Papers
If you have a lot of papers, create files to keep those papers organized. Divide your papers up into subjects then create file folders for each subject. You may end up creating several folders in order to make sure each piece of paper can be sorted into a folder. The idea is to create a place for everything.
Use Containers for Smaller Items
Make use of jars, plastic food containers (cleaned out of course!), and other small containers to hold items in your work space. Everything needs a specific place to be. Paper clips can be sorted into baby food jars, extra staples can be kept in an old food container.
Go Up
Use shelves wherever possible to get items up and off your desk. Shelves can hold containers and help keep things close by but out of the way.
When it comes to getting your work space organized, a little time investment can increase your productivity. Go ahead and see how motivated you feel after getting your work space in order!

Great post! I have recently been trying to de-clutter my workspace. It has made quite the difference so far. The one problem is i have stuffed everything in my drawers! I love the idea of shelves for the less used items, don’t know why I didn’t think of that!
