Simply follow our handy tips that follow and stick to them like glue! These tips for organizing kids toys are quick and easy. Consider using them today!
Teach them the value of giving early on
Have you ever seen that television show Hoarders? A large number of those folks missed the lesson on giving that many of us experience early in life. The issues run deeper than that for most of them, but it is certainly a valid problem for the majority. With kids, you have to teach them the value of giving as early as you can. One great way to do so is also a huge help to organize toys. Have them give away or donate toys and clothes and explain the reason why. If they adopt that attitude early, it will follow them in life.
Purge at least once per year
Once per year you should go through the toys in your kid’s room and purge three or four. Most families do this around Christmas and then replace those toys with something under the tree eventually. The kids need to know that they are giving so let them be part of the process. This will allow them to learn and purge at the same time. Kids will love giving once they get a taste of it. Let them be the ones to give them to the donation center.
Limit the number of toys
Determine ahead of time how many toys is reasonable for your child to have at a time. For some the number might be slightly higher or lower, but only you know how much space you need. Don’t worry about them not having enough toys. Kids will use their favorite toys repeatedly and generally ignore others for the life they exist in their room. Keep it reasonable and let them stick with the ones they truly love.
Use pictures to label containers
One of the coolest ways to organize kids toys is to make it easy for them to put away. Take digital photos of the toys and then paste the pics on the outside of the bins they belong in. Kids will quickly realize what goes where and with minimal training from you.
Use your vertical space wisely
If you are not building up in the kid’s room you are likely wasting valuable space. Of course you will want to keep the kids toys down low to allow for access, but that does not mean you can’t also put some things up high. Paints, small parts and various other things you might not want them touching can be stored high on a shelf or in the closet. Otherwise use it for other things in the room. Either way, you should use that vertical space to help organize kids toys.
Grab netting for all stuffed toys
Netting is wonderful and a nice big hammock is perfect for stuffed animals. Have your child store them in the corner with netting and you will have them out of the way rather than underfoot. We all know how stuffed animals can eat up space. Give them their own bed with some hammock love.
Nothing goes in without something going out
All of this is for naught if you don’t adopt a new rule. Anything that comes in demands that something goes out. All new acquisitions come at a price. Kids will learn this rule and actually adopt it over time. Make sure you also follow such rules in your home or else it will be a very tough sell.
