Pumpkin Cake Balls with Cream Cheese Frosting Recipe
Pumpkin Cake Balls with Cream Cheese Frosting Recipe
Fall is here and it’s my absolute favorite time of year! What’s not to love? Football season is in full swing, the temps are dropping, the holidays are right around the corner (which makes me totally giddy) and oh yeah, it’s also the season for pumpkin everything! I’m kicking October off by serving one of my favorite treats- cake balls. Naturally, I decided to make them pumpkin spice flavored, and I couldn’t resist turning them into tiny pumpkins for kicks. This pumpkin cake balls with cream cheese frosting recipe is not only adorable and quick and easy to make, but also wickedly delicious. These festive little pumpkins are the perfect treat to take along to any Halloween party this season!
Simple Steps to make this Pumpkin Cake Balls with Cream Cheese Frosting Recipe:
First, bake a pumpkin spice cake mix according to box directions.
Let cake cool about 30 minutes.
Break cake into chunks in a bowl.
Using a spoon (or let’s face it, your hands work best), crumble the cake into small crumbs.
Spoon whole can of frosting into the cake crumbs, mixing well.
Roll mixture into balls and set on parchment paper on a cookie sheet.
Freeze for 20-30 minutes.
While cake balls are setting in the freezer, cut candy straws into “stems.”
When cake balls are set, microwave orange candy melts according to package directions. *Do Not over heat! Candy melts will harden if over heated!*
Using a fork, roll frozen cake balls in melted candy until coated- about 20-30 minutes.
Set on parchment paper and immediately stick green apple sour punch straw “stems” into the cake ball.
Allow candy coating to set for 20-30 minutes.
This recipe makes approximately 3 dozen cake balls.
Note: I prefer to serve mine refrigerated, but it is not necessary. Also, I remove the candy “stem” and eat it separately from the cake ball itself since it’s a sour candy. You could also use green licorice, which is what I originally intended to use, but could not find at my local grocery store.
Cake balls are one of my go-to desserts to take to parties because they’re quick, easy and oh so delicious. These little pumpkin cake balls are the perfect snack to make for any Halloween party you have coming up this fall season. They are especially a huge hit with kids!
